How to Clean Crystals and Stones: A Material-Specific Care Guide

The safest cleaning approach depends on the complete crystal product. A loose stone, a delicate flower carving and a lamp on a powered base should not automatically receive the same treatment. Begin with the individual listing and use the gentlest suitable method.

Identify the material and construction

Check the material name and look for metal fittings, carved details, attached components and mixed stones. A display set may contain several materials with different care needs. If you cannot confirm what is present, ask before introducing water or a cleaning agent.

Remove ordinary dust gently

Where the product instructions allow, use a soft dry cloth or a clean, soft brush. Support the piece from its stronger body or base. Work carefully around petals, wings and exposed specimen points, which can be more vulnerable than a smooth surface.

Do not assume soaking is suitable

General advice about a mineral may not cover a finished ornament. Water can affect components other than the stone, and some listings specifically instruct you to keep the item dry. Follow those instructions instead of treating a whole set as though it were one loose crystal.

Protect lamps and bases

Switch off and disconnect a powered lamp before cleaning, following its supplied instructions. Keep electrical parts dry and avoid pulling or twisting the stone from its base. Clean only accessible surfaces in a way appropriate to the product.

Ask about difficult marks

Avoid testing harsh chemicals, abrasive tools, steam or ultrasonic equipment on a piece whose suitability is unknown. A persistent mark may be a natural inclusion or a condition issue rather than removable dirt. Send a clear photograph and ask for advice before further treatment.

Physical cleaning removes dust and dirt. Spiritual cleansing is a separate, optional belief-based practice; it should never override the care instructions for your actual piece.
